Thanks for your reply. Your explanation makes sense. I was just confused , why Servicenow made the Tag field available to the Activity formatter… and it does not function..

  In the below image, i used the highlighted Add Tag link.                                                               In the below image, you can see that i configured tags to be displayed in the activity log.
