Some interesting points came up in discussion that I wanted to highlight.
Silos
On boarding as a silo'ed process
- Identity - Who the Employee is
- Technology - What tools the Employee needs
- Access - What access the Employee will have
The discussion started with only two silos but I think there is a solid third here. The access issue appears more from an employee changing positions within an organization, but is present in either case.
Data Points
Constantin brought up an excellent point while considering the entire process. And while it does de-humanize the action I think it's very important to realize we are all DATA POINTS. The identity, technology and access processed hinge on the employee, which is a data record to be managed. Created in AD (or another management platform), assigned an account, applied to a payroll system, used as a delivery point for a workstation, and finally granted access to applications.
