Is it possible to display/highlight "mandatory" fields and still be able to save with empty mfields?

I would like to guide the user through the record.
However, as a lot of fields have to be filled in initially.
I have the problem that you may not know directly what to write in a few mandatory fields.
If you leave fields empty and press save, only the fields that are still empty are displayed, the values that have already been filled in are not saved.
I could do the check with a separate ui action on the server side, but then the user does not know beforehand (due to the mandatory field labelling) what he should fill in ....
Is there a way to display /highlight "mandatory" fields and still be able to save them if fields remain empty that the user wants to fill in later?
Of course I understand the idea behind a MANDATORY FIELD for saving.... 😉
