Employee Center – Show Quick Links (Quick Links table) in the header menu instead of manual menu

Hi everyone,

We’re building a custom Employee Center portal (a copy of the EC theme, using the OOTB Employee Center Header widget). We have Quick Links in two places:

  1. Header: the portal’s Main menu has a menu item “Quick links” (Type = Page) with child menu items (Tickets, Approvals, Report an issue, Surveys) that we created manually.
  2. Homepage: a Quick Links widget that reads records from the Employee Center > Quick Links table (configured via instance options, card view).

Both show the same links today, but they’re maintained separately. We’d like a single source: the Quick Links table.

What we tried:

  • On a Quick Link record there’s a Navigation related list. We linked a quick link to our “Quick links” menu item, but nothing changed in the header (also tested on another menu item).

Questions:

  1. Is there an OOTB way for the Employee Center header menu to display records from the Quick Links table? What is the Navigation related list on Quick Links used for?
  2. If not, is a Scripted List menu item reading the Quick Links table the recommended approach, or is maintaining menu items separately the usual practice?
  3. Any best practices for keeping header links and homepage quick links in sync?
  4. since the header has the quick link records , how can i keep them on homepage without creating the records in quick link table.

Thanks in advance!
