A Shift in Requirements Gathering: Static Mockups to Clickable Reality

Anyone who has run a requirements workshop knows the gap: you show the client a static wireframe, they nod, and six weeks later during UAT you discover "yes, that's what we meant" actually meant something else entirely. Static mockups ask clients to imagine a working product. Most people can't, and shouldn't have to.
On a recent Procurement (S2P) Portal engagement, we changed the approach. Instead of producing flat screenshots, we used AI to generate working, clickable HTML prototypes directly from workshop discussion. A requirement surfaced in the morning session could be sitting in front of the client as a navigable prototype that afternoon.
The efficiency gain for the architect was real — hours of design tooling collapsed into minutes but the bigger win was on the client side. Stakeholders clicked through the guided buying flow, hit the decision points, and immediately said things like "wait, this category shouldn't route here." That feedback arrived during requirements, not during UAT, when every change carries a configuration and regression cost.
The prototype isn't the build but it makes the conversation concrete, and concrete conversations produce requirements you can actually configure against. If you're still spending days or weeks on static mockups, give this a try next time!

Completely agree, but I'd take it a step further and apply AI across the entire requirements lifecycle, not just the prototyping phase. Review requirements documents, workshop transcripts, consultant notes and stakeholder inputs, then generate user stories, acceptance criteria and clickable HTML wireframes.
The real opportunity is reducing the feedback loop from weeks to hours. Rather than validating requirements through documents and static mockups, stakeholders can interact with a proposed solution almost immediately, challenge assumptions and refine requirements while the context is still fresh. You get to the solution that meets the customer's needs much faster, and once validated, hand it straight to Build Agent to accelerate delivery.
