Just checking to see if we can actually use this space to interface with each other and provide a space for a call for topics.

I know one thing I'd like to see more knowledge management solutions, I know this was sort of covered, but I want to see how people are using this from a self-service portal perspective. One thing I'd really like to see is OLE enabled KB article editing, or a quick import feature from a standard format. This would stop me from just attaching word documents to KB's and copying the text into Meta to import from our other solutions.

Comments

I am wondering about linking documents from Notes, etc. A workaround is cut and paste URL in Address line into field in Service-now form, then have user cut and paste back in Notes. Can't figure out how to "copy as link" - any ideas? OLE2?

In preparation for future Service-now.com Local User Group meetings, please provide topics you would like covered by Service-now.com at the meetings. We will be selecting topics from this blog when we are planning meetings. Even if what you would like to hear about is covered, add another comment. We will use frequency of requests as one of our criteria for selecting topics. Thanks, everyone!!!

I would like to see a demonstration of the enhanced reporting features, including table joins, the new metrics plug in, and defining colors for a specific value/output. I would also like to see demonstrated how you specify size and shape of multiple charts on a report.

Tera Contributor

I would like to see how the new ITIL best practice plug ins work - what do they add and how might they effect customizations?

Tera Contributor

I would like to see the Change Management workflow plug in. What does it add to the change management process? What makes it better than what we have now? Will this allow me to create dependencies in my change tasks? In addition, what might a Record Producer front end for change management look like?

One quick question, can I invite other Service Desk managers not using the software? I think they'd like to see the value in switching...

Also, I'd really like to see how people are building scorecards from their reporting. My scorecard is largely a manual compilation of auto-emailed reports, there must be a better way for historic reporting...

Hope I am not out-of-line in replying but from Service-now.com's point of view we would be quite happy for you to bring non-customers to the LUG. Still, this is YOUR user group so the final answer should probably come from the members of the group.

Tera Contributor

Sounds good, thanks!

Have you tried creating a custom field with a type of "URL"? This should give you the functionality you are looking for if I am understanding what you are asking. Let me know.

Joel

I would like to see the PM module. There are a few glitches with printing the Gantt chart, not being able to upgrade or downgrade tasks easily, etc.

Tera Contributor

I like this, that's a good idea, the problem then would be permanent URL's of course, but that's easily overcome with a little forward thinking.

joel.blagg

Thanks! We are going to use scripts and I'll pass on the ideas posted.

I think Joel was responding to my initial KnowledgeManagement bit.

I agree with your PM bit though... it's kind of clunky, due to it being new I'm sure. One thing we particularly want fixed is making EVERY single reference to a task "clickable"

r-korabek

I thought it was about my old URL question. Never mind then.

Tera Contributor

Nope I think you're right, so it works for both!

We covered the PM application in the last meeting, going through functionality etc. As for the issues you mentioned, I can shed some light on where we are with that. I am at Corporate this week for our new year kick-off. Yesterday we heard from one of the developers talking about the upcoming enhancements to PPM that will be coming in one of the next 2 releases (can't be exact on date yet). The majority of the enhancements will be around Gantt Chart capabilities (there are plans to be able to use it in other parts of the tool possibly as well). So with a little patience I think you'll see more of the features there you are looking for. It wouldn't hurt though if you would like to submit your own enhancement request (how to do it from the wiki: http://wiki.service-now.com/index.php?title=Requesting_Enhancements_to_your_Service-now_Instance) with the features you would like to see included.

Thanks
Joel

I am planning on "previewing" some upcoming enhancements to knowledge management as well.
