The Service Graph Connector for OpenTelemetry enables you to map data sources reporting to Cloud Observability into configuration items (CIs) within the ServiceNow CMDB. By incorporating these sources in the CMDB, you can monitor your cloud infrastructure equivalently to your on-premise systems.

Key Points to Consider Before Installing the Connector

 

Telemetry Data to Cloud Observability

• Telemetry data is ingested by Cloud Observability from your system via OpenTelemetry. The prevalent method for this is through the OpenTelemetry Collector. We recommend using the Kubernetes Quick Start for deploying the Collector, as it ensures appropriate configuration for the Service Graph Connector.

Data verification

Once your data is in Cloud Observability, it's essential to confirm its accuracy and completeness before sending it to the Service Graph Connector.

• Metrics: Use the pre-built dashboards for AWS and OpenTelemetry to validate metric data. Cloud Observability also offers a detailed metrics section for inspecting all other ingested metrics and related metadata.
  
  
• Service Topology: Craft a dependency map within a dashboard or notebook. The service diagram will reveal all the reporting services along with their dependencies.

Information Collection for Installation

Preparing for the installation of the Service Graph Connector, you will require:

• Organization name: Located at the top of the Account Management settings page.
  
  
• Cloud Observability API key: Generate a fresh API key specifically for the Connector. Remember, this key has a lifespan of a year.

Alert Notifications Integration

Extend the functionality by sending Cloud Observability alerts directly to ServiceNow Event Management. This is facilitated by linking alerts to a notification destination, which can be effortlessly set up in the Guided Setup of the Service Graph Connector for OpenTelemetry.
