ServiceNow Discovery:network discovery of wireless access points via a Cisco Catalyst 9800 Series WC

GM:

When trying to scan WAP connected to a Cisco Systems, Inc. Catalyst 9800 Series WC we get no results, i.e. it only brings the info related to the WC and it does not pull any of the WIP data along with it. When checking the Discovery logs there are no errors, no indication as to why we are not able to scan the WIP.

We are discovering WAPs connected to switches, however when it comes to WAPs connected to this Cisco router, we cannot discover them.

has anyone faced the same situation?

I have seen the same issue.  Discovery changes the device from IP switch to IP router, and no WAPs get discovered.  My team raised a HI ticket, but no resolution yet.  All OIDs are verified to be in ServiceNow as IP switches.  The model category is IP switch.  Once discovery runs, it reverts back to IP router.

Hello. I have seen the same issue too. Did you make some progress?

I handled this by copying the Cisco WAP extension, editing the new version so that the references it creates are with cmdb_ci_ip_router instead of cmdb_ci_ip_switch, and then adding the extension to the Network Router pattern.

HI @cvelasquez
I had the same issue and could resolve it.
1.- Search for the MIB files listed at the following link
https://www.servicenow.com/community/itom-blog/discover-cisco-wap-device-from-controller/ba-p/226986...

on the official CISCO page https://cfnng.cisco.com/mibs

2.- Load the MIB files in All > MID Server > SNMP Mibs
3.- Create a new record per MIB file attaching the file to the record.

4.- Navigate to All > Discovery definition > CI Classification > SNMP System OIDs

5.- Search for the "System OID" for the Cisco Model. In your case for Catalyst 9800 model the system oid is 1.3.6.1.2.1.1

6.- If no record show, you need to create a new one, selecting the IP Switch table and Standard Network Switch classifier.

The classifier call the Network Switch pattern and if you have latest version you can see at the extension section the Cisco WAPs extension.

And done. Now you can discover the WAPs from Cisco controllers
