Hi Team, I hope you are able to help me. Business wants to track these additional VMs in CMDB. We already have Arista physical appliances and now they want to track virtual machine instance on these physical appliances. Currently, ITOM is not able to discover these Arista devices, these are created via a different datasource. These VMs are not in vCenter. Which out of box table should I use to track this VM data in? Currently, all vcenter virtual appliances are being discovered by ITOM in VM Virtual Machine Instance table.

Even though your Arista Virtual Machines are created using different data source, you can still use the VM Virtual Machine Instance table.
Your VM Virtual Machine Instance table will hold data from 2 different data sources that is still fine.
You can use the source field to identify from where it is discovered (vCenter or different data source).
Accept the solution and mark as helpful if it does, to benefit future readers.

Sumanth

Hi Sumanth, I wanted to give you an update on our current plans and seek your valuable feedback. We are looking to use the (cmdb_ci_kvm_vm_instance) class, which is a child class of Virtual Machine Instance. Since there isn't an out-of-the-box discovery for Arista devices and/or VMs, we will be adding and managing all this data manually through service requests and other means.
Given the data model and dependent relationships, I plan to implement it this way.
1. Network Gear (parent): We will be using the Runs On::Runs relationship. In the CI class manager, it indicates Computer, but since Network Gear is part of the Hardware CI class, just like Computer, and we have the Arista physical appliances in the Network Gear CI class, we are relating these two.
2. Application (child)**: We will be using the Depends On::Used By relationship. As we currently have an application-centric data model, this relationship is essential and aligns well with our company's CMDB setup.
I appreciate your attention to this matter and look forward to your insights and suggestions. Thank you!
