Hello,
What parts of CSDM can you implement without a formal CMDB? Specifically, thinking about what is coming with CSDM 4.0.
What are the points of value that you will get out of implementing CSDM without a formal CMDB?
Is it even possible to implement CSDM without CMDB? Has anyone done this?
Does it make sense to start with CSDM in Quebec (our current version), Rome, or just jump to San Diego so we don't have to consider any upgrade effort for the rest of the year which will let us concentrate on priority roadmap efforts?
Any help and opinions of expertise are greatly appreciated.
Best Regards,

Hi Dan,
Lets keep it very simple: You can setup CSDM without a ' formal' CMDB as you dont have to know each and every CI and every CI detail to implement CSDM. Of course: The less you know about the elements that provide a certain service the less advantages you have of capabilities like Event Management, Impact assessment etc.
CSDM at least helps to:
- Get a view on assignment groups and their capabilities (ie TS and TSO)
- Get a view on what is delivered to / expected by business (end)users (ie BS and BSO)
- The services to be deliverd towards the business / (end) users (ie Application Services)
The ' formal' CMDB is mostly considered as all the elements that are providing the (Application)Services. Consider a method of creating generic CI's (like dbase 1, linux server 1 etc.) and building up the application stack with them. Then you can relate TSO's and at least do your ticket routing/assignment.
Hope this inspires you a bit.
