We are attempting to implement the TBM Taxonomy for services in ServiceNow and are trying to line this prescriptive taxonomy with the CSDM 2.0 taxonomy. Has anyone done this or are there recommendations on how to do this?
The TBM Taxonomy is located https://documentcloud.adobe.com/link/track?uri=urn%3Aaaid%3Ascds%3AUS%3A98a05016-0ca4-41e9-ae78-ebf5...
Our initial thoughts are as follows:
- (TBM) Service Type ==> (CSDM) Portfolio (e.g. End User Services)
- (TBM) Service Category ==> (CSDM) Service Group?? (e.g. Computing)
- (TBM) Service Name ==> (CSDM) Business Service (e.g. Desktop or Laptop or BYOD)

Hi Nick
What made you settle on that model rather than something like:
- "IT Services" ==> (SN) Service Portfolio [spm_service_portfolio]
- (TBM) Service Type ==> (SN) Taxonomy Node [spm_taxonomy_node] (Taxonomy Layer Definition: Service Type)
- (TBM) Service Category ==> (SN) Taxonomy Node [spm_taxonomy_node] (Taxonomy Layer Definition: Service Category)
- (TBM) Service Name ==> (SN) Service [cmdb_ci_service]

Hi Robert,
did you find out about this? I have implemented the TBM taxonomy exactly the way you have, but now people are wondering if it's possible to have other Service Portfolios than the TBM-defined ones, for instance portfolios that go across the top layer TBM (End User, Shared Services, etc.). This because they want the portfolios to represent how accountability is structured within our organization, and that is not supported by the current set-up where a service can only be part of one portfolio, and we have to define what taxonomy nodes each portfolio should have access to.
We have this implementation (though we haven't related the offerings and catalog items yet):
Now if another part of the organization is managing the purchase and hand-out of mobile, they want this service to be part of their cross-TBM-set up. Would we then need to move "End User" and all TBM top layer nodes out of the service portfolios, create top nodes as a new layer within the TBM taxonomy structure, and then copy-paste the whole structure as many times as we have Service Portfolios? We are starting to bill our Transfer Pricing units from services in Servicenow from January 2021, and were hoping that this was in place by then.
I'd be really happy if you have solved this in a good way during the months since you posted your question, and would like to share how.

Hi!
You should have a look at this really good presentation from Knowledge 2020 done by Canadian National Rail. They did the CSDM - TBM mapping very successfully.

Hi Kristine, sorry for taking so long to reply.
I echo clyth's comments, the presentation done by Candian National Rail is excellent and I think it will also help you explain the concept to other stakeholders. I would be mindful of your organisation's desire to have a taxonomy more-or-less based on the org structure though; I wouldn't recommend it.

Have you tried to look into the IT4IT concept?
https://www.opengroup.org/it4it
I am also using the TBM in my company and I have found good inspiration here:
