Technology or IT Capabilities

Novice here... does SNOW has technology / IT capabilities class?

For example this is what I want to achieve -

1. Provide Guest Access and Collaboration (Business Capabilitiy)

2. External Portal (Business Application)

3. Collaboration (IT Capability) --> Things like this is what I want to maintain.

4. Software Model (Microsoft Teams)

5. Hardware Model (-)

I dont think so but my suggestion is only create if you feel its absolutely necessary to have a separate representation of your data otherwise use the closest available class and maintain your data there , you can always have your own relationships defined which is much easier

Hi Srini,

I recommend watching these videos:

CSDM In A Nutshell - YouTube

CSDM Technical Service Deep Dive Discussion - YouTube

CSDM v4 impacts to APM - [Ep23. ITBM ValueTalks] - YouTube

They will explain how you can create a good structure.

And I guess you may want to reorganize your set up slightly after seeing these, so that you get services and service offerings into your structure:

  1. Provide Guest Access and Collaboration (Business Capability)
  2. Microsoft Office 365 (Business Application)
  3. Collaboration tools (Business service)
  4. Microsoft Office 365 or Microsoft Teams  (Business service offering)
  5. Microsoft Teams xyz version (Software Model)

And then a similar structure for connectivity, and another one for lap tops (if you have hardware involved)

Good luck!

This is how we set it up from capability down to the Service Structure.

Thank you for your responses and links. I was referring to the idea in this link IT Capability - CIO Wiki (cio-wiki.org)

One way is to call "Capabilities" very generic and have Business and IT in the single class "Business Capabilities". Or maintain IT Capabilities for relationships else where. They are not Products as defined in the CSDM, they are not services. So may be this does not exist in SNOW currently (I dont see that in CSDM 4.0) also. Perhaps create a custom user table and store there?
