Hi,
I have used the undocumented Diagnostics API (class) to build a performance dashboard for a on-prem instance with 12 application nodes. Helpful also for the inhouse 24/7 team. Has mobile responsive view also.
This is about the only "official" documentation that is available:

The legacy Servicenow Performance dashboard is still use full in many ways, you just need to learn how to "read" the most important metrics with one view to the data. Still using that and these other dashboards compliment and provide a view into data that comply with the 10 second rule of dashboards. "A user should understand the core message of a dashboard within 10 seconds of looking at it."

I have started small and once I get an iteration working, I proceed with the next ideas.
I have also used Figma to generate different mockups for approval or to collect ideas for the dashboard widgets.
