Hi everyone,
I’m looking for some guidance on how to move from learning to real-world experience in ServiceNow.
So far, I have:
- Completed introductory training on ServiceNow microfrontend development
- Studied for the ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA)
- Gained hands-on knowledge of Flow Designer, Client Scripts, and Glide APIs
- Explored CSD (Certified ServiceNow Developer) concepts
Now I’m at the stage where I want to apply this knowledge in a real project to gain practical experience.
My questions:
- Are there ways to get involved in real ServiceNow projects (even small or unpaid)?
- Does ServiceNow or partners offer internships or trainee programs?
- Any recommendations for platforms, communities, or companies that welcome beginners?
I’d really appreciate any advice, opportunities, or direction from the community.
Thanks in advance!

It depends on a lot of things. For starters: where are you based? Because, especially when you are in the learning phase, it would be could to work with people instead of remote. You'll learn faster.
Also: you completed a training, studied for an exam, gained hands on knowledge and explored concepts. That says nothing about the results. I would completely rephrase that when you start reaching out to companies, just to get a foot in the door.
I can't speak for ServiceNow, but there are (larger) partners out there that welcome beginners/interns. Don't offer yourself as unpaid, because then you won't get paid. Reach out to companies (partners) that run projects and ask them for a position (even if you only start by building catalog items in an ITSM implementation). Focus your own time on the AI of it all. That's something that will only be growing and can help you to get an interview, even if you haven't worked in real projects yet. That knowledge will become invaluable.
Also: keep that PDI awake. Run your own projects on it. Create apps, think of great stuff to run on existing modules and extend your experience to more than 'studied, explored and gained knowledge'.
Reach out to companies, people you know, etc. And don't forget to think about what it is that you want for yourself. What do you see yourself doing in X years? Do you want to travel the road of a Technical Architect, do you want to become the best Project Manager ever, do you want to become the Administrator companies are fighting for? Focus your time and energy on what will help you on your path.
Please mark any helpful or correct solutions as such. That helps others find their solutions.
