CSM User preference and User Profile

Hi Everyone,
I don't understand how preferences and profile are used is CSM Portal :
As you see in picture below, my "sys_user" attributes are different from my "User Preference"
Updating one does not update the other.
User preference are retrieve from both url (via api request) :
https://INSTANCE.service-now.com/api/now/ui/concoursepicker/timezone
https://INSTANCE.service-now.com/api/now/ui/concoursepicker/language
How is that possible ?
How to link/sync User Preference and User Profile in both direction ?
I'm a bit confused, so are my customers. Thanks

Hi @Chuck Tomasi,
On the CSM portal, as an end user when "Business Phone" is empty i am able to edit it. After that not able to update. It became a un-editable field. Please help here.

I have similar doubt around this, as an end user over the CSM portal profile, i am not able to update business phone. If empty then able to edit it after that it became a non-editable field. Any idea?
