What is difference between Customer and Partner

USA Product and service company [XXXXXX] using CSM. 

 who is Partner? , Who is customer ? for USA Product and service company [XXXXXX] . what they can do? how will be the relationship between?

Where it says:

Customer	Denotes this account as a customer account. Note: If you are creating a customer account, this field is enabled by default.
Partner	Denotes this account as a partner account. A partner can report and manage cases on behalf of customers. A partner can also be a customer. Note: If you are creating a partner account, this field is enabled by default.

So Partner account can create case behalf of any accounts in system ?

example :

1. ABC is Partner account for USA Oil industry[xxxxxxx] .

2. HHH, JJJJ, LLL are separate customer accounts for USA Oil industry[xxxxxxx] .

So now ABC Partner account user can create case behalf of ( HHH, JJJJ, LLL) ?

ex: Lets assume , "Unified" is  one of Partner account to "ServiceNow".

Now please help us for understanding,

1.  what was the relation between "ServiceNow" and  "YYYYYY","XXXXXXX" accounts.

2.  what was the relation between "Unified" and  "YYYYYY","XXXXXXX" accounts.
