Hacktoberfest 2024 is here, and it's not just for developers!
Even if you don’t write code, you can still make meaningful contributions to open source through this challenge. By following a few simple steps, non-coders can get involved, learn something new, and complete their first pull request . All you need is access to ServiceNow Studio and a bit of guidance—no coding required!
If this is your first time participating in Hacktoberfest, I recommend starting by reading the official ServiceNow Hacktoberfest 2024 Blog for an overview of the event and how you can get involved.
Once you're ready, it's time to import the Plants Application (into ServiceNow Studio and link your credentials. With just a few easy steps, you’ll be on your way to contributing, and the best part? No coding is required!
A Quick Guide to Importing the Plants Application
The tricky part is loading the Plants application into ServiceNow Studio.
Here's a quick guide to help you through it:
-
Import the Application:
- In ServiceNow Studio, click on Import Application from Source Control.
- Enter the URL of the forked GitHub repository for the Plants application.
(Main repository link: https://github.com/ServiceNowDevProgram/Plants,) Do not use this as url. a new fork has to be created from the main repo.
-
Set Up Credentials:
- You need to create credentials in ServiceNow.
- In the filter navigator, search for Credentials and select Basic Authentication.
- Create a username of your choice.
- For the password, generate a GitHub token by visiting https://github.com/settings/tokens.
- Use this token as the password.
-
Complete the Import:
- Enter the same credentials in the Import Application page.
- you can create a new branch from your forked GitHub repository and enter the branch name in the Branch field.
- after these value, click on import.
I have made a video on how to create a plant record and create a Pull request.
