I was looking for a way to standardize notifications when came across these 3 modules in Service Now..
- System Policy > Email > Layouts
- System Policy > Email > Template
- System Notification > Email > Notifications
Here is the flow on how it ties together:
- All the static content, goes in Layouts.. Like Banner of the organization, Footer, ServiceDesk signature etc.
- Then comes Template .. Template imports the layout (optionally, you can define variables here like Short description etc..)
- Finally Notifications.. these import Template.. Define the message (email body) in Notifications under tab "What it will contain"...
Once you preview the notification, it will pick the layout (which gets invoked from the template associated) and the message contents gets inserted from what is defined in the notification itself.
I hope this helps if anyone is trying to standardize notifications..
Please let me know if further details needed or if there are any questions.
Thanks,
Malaya
