Did you know you can guide users and provide additional context in forms using Form Annotations? 🎯 Many admins and developers don’t realize this feature exists, but it’s a powerful way to enhance clarity and reduce confusion for end users interacting with forms in ServiceNow. 📄
✨ What are Form Annotations?
Form annotations are notes that can be added to a form to give users with useful information or instructions without changing the form's layout. These annotations appear as little messages (similar to tooltips or inline notes) adjacent to fields or sections, improving form usability.
✨ How to Add Form Annotations:
➡️ Navigate to: Open Form > Context Menu > Form Layout > Annotation > Field Messages.
This is where you may create and manage form annotations (also called field messages).
➡️ Define the Annotation Message.
• Fill out the Annotation Text area with your annotation's content. This may include:
Instructions (e.g., "Please ensure the request details are complete before submitting").
Provide warnings or reminders (e.g., "Changing the status to Closed cannot be undone").
- Provide context for a specific field (e.g., "This field is auto-populated based on your selection").
➡️ Save and Test: • After saving the annotation, navigate to the form to view how it appears in real time. Ensure accurate user guidance by displaying relevant information.
📂 When to use form annotations:
• Guide users through complex forms and clarify field requirements.
• Ensure users adhere to recommended practices and avoid frequent mistakes.
• Providing additional support during the implementation of new procedures or workflows without formal training sessions.
Using Form #Annotations in ServiceNow improves user experience, reduces errors, and streamlines form usage by providing context where needed. 🔥 Use this hidden gem to make your forms more intuitive and user-friendly.
