There’s a lot of talk about architecture in the agentic AI space, but let’s simplify it.
ServiceNow’s direction can be thought of as a layered setup:
1. Experience Layer (AIx)
This is where users interact:
- Chat
- Voice
- UI
- Even images/screenshots
It’s no longer just forms and lists.
2. Orchestration Layer
This is the “brain”:
- Coordinates multiple agents
- Decides what to do next
- Manages handoffs between tasks
3. Build & Governance
Where we come in:
- Creating agents
- Defining behavior
- Applying controls and policies
4. Data Layer
This is critical:
- Real-time data access
- Connected systems
- Faster querying
5. Foundation (Data Model & Knowledge Graph)
- Unified understanding of enterprise data
- Context for decision-making
The key takeaway?
Agents are only as good as the data and governance behind them.
So while the AI part gets the spotlight, the real power comes from:
- Clean data
- Strong architecture
- Proper controls
That’s still very much in our hands
