There’s a lot of talk about architecture in the agentic AI space, but let’s simplify it.

ServiceNow’s direction can be thought of as a layered setup:

1. Experience Layer (AIx)
This is where users interact:

  • Chat
  • Voice
  • UI
  • Even images/screenshots

It’s no longer just forms and lists.

2. Orchestration Layer
This is the “brain”:

  • Coordinates multiple agents
  • Decides what to do next
  • Manages handoffs between tasks

3. Build & Governance
Where we come in:

  • Creating agents
  • Defining behavior
  • Applying controls and policies

4. Data Layer
This is critical:

  • Real-time data access
  • Connected systems
  • Faster querying

5. Foundation (Data Model & Knowledge Graph)

  • Unified understanding of enterprise data
  • Context for decision-making

The key takeaway?

Agents are only as good as the data and governance behind them.

So while the AI part gets the spotlight, the real power comes from:

  • Clean data
  • Strong architecture
  • Proper controls

That’s still very much in our hands
