Hi ServiceNow Enthusiasts,
During your tenure, you must have been wondering on how to get the Parent Child Relationship without adding 'Parent' field on the form? What if there is a Parent of the Parent and so on., How can we show all the Parent Child Relationship linking together and easy to access any Parent?
Now, you can achieve these using ServiceNow feature called "Parent Breadcrumbs".
What is Parent Breadcrumbs Formatter?
The parent breadcrumbs formatter on the Task table provides breadcrumbs that show the parent or parents of the current task. This formatter can be used also on any table that extends Task and table which has 'Parent' field referring to Task table, even for Custom Tables.
How to use Parent Breadcrumbs Formatter feature?
Step 1: Open the record where you want to enable it.
Step 2: Go to Context Menu of the Form, Go to 'Configure' and click on 'Form Design' as below:
Step 3: Create new Section using + Symbol and remove the Section Name, Make it 1 Column Section and Drag it to the top as below:
Step 4: From the Left, Scroll to the bottom and find 'Parent Breadcrumbs' under Formatters as below:
Step 5: Add this to the new Form Section created as below:
Step 6: Click on 'Save' button. Done.
To test it, open any Record which has Parent and their parent also have parent and see Parent Breadcrumb as below:
Notice that Parents are Hyperlink which can help you to directly redirect to the particular Parent record.
