What’s Creator Studio? 

Creator Studio is a no-code tool that lets you whip up apps fast, no waiting on IT. It’s perfect for those simple, request-based workflows that need to get done without the hassle. The best part? It’s easy to use and comes with built-in governance, so your apps stay compliant and good to go, without any extra effort on your end.

Already using App Engine Studio? No problem. Creator Studio plays nice with it, letting you knock out the simpler apps quickly while saving AES for the bigger, more complex projects. How Do I Enter?

Jumping into the #BuildWithCreatorStudio challenge is simple. Here's how you can get started:

1. Set Up Your PDI (Personal Developer Instance): If you don't already have Creator Studio in your environment, go to your ServiceNow Developer Portal and either log into or spin up a PDI. It’s free and easy! Just make sure you install Creator Studio.

2. Build Your App: Now’s the time to create! Feel free to let your imagination run wild or keep it simple.

3. Share Your Build: When your app is complete, submit a 300-word description, a video, or an infographic that explains what your app does, and your experience using Creator Studio. Be sure to share it on both in the comments of this blog and on social media using #BuildWithCreatorStudio

Then sit back, relax, and wait for your swag redemption email!

• Where Do I Enter? 
  • To enter, you must follow the guidelines and respond to this Community blog post. You must include links to your content as well as links to where you shared on social media with #BuildWithCreatorStudio hashtagged. 

• Where and What Do I Post on Community? 
  • You’re in the right place! Simply log into your ServiceNow Community account. At the bottom of this blog, you will see an area to comment. This is where you can input your proof of completing the challenge using Creator Studio use along with a description of what you’ve built.  

• Where and What Do I Post on Social Media? 
  • You can post on any social media platform, whether it’s LinkedIn or Twitter, and share your completed app and Creator Studio imagery/experience.  

• What if I Don’t Have Social Media?

• When Will I Receive My Swag? 
  • When you complete the challenge, you can expect an email in a few weeks from ServiceNow with the subject line #BuildWithCreatorStudio Redemption. Enclosed there will be a link to our Developer Swag Store and a code to which you can redeem your mug. Based on the address you provide; your mug will ship there. If you are located outside the USA, please expect a longer shipping time. Swag is limited to while supplies last.

Terms and Conditions 

No purchase is necessary. #BuildWithCreatorStudio Challenge is open only to individuals at least eighteen (18) years old at the time of entry. The Challenge begins September 8, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time ("PDT") and ends on October 8, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. PDT. 

Entrants must respond to the official forum with a 1) Screenshot, graphic, or video showing their app built using Creator Studio or 2) a 300 minimum word description of the app they built with a screenshot using Creator Studio AND entrants must post their video or blog into the ServiceNow Community Developer forum here AND share it on LinkedIn or Twitter with #BuildWithCreatorStudio Challenge on their post AND the social media post will be linked to their forum post.  

The Submission must be your own, original work; The Submission must contain a relevant reason/response to the prompt of Creator Studio; The Submission must meet the format and size requirements of the social platform used to enter; The Submission must conform with any applicable social media platform terms. 

The prize includes the official 2024 #BuildWithCreatorStudio Mug, while supplies last. Government employees are excluded from receiving the mug but can participate in the challenge. The brand of mug may vary. Mug may take up to 4 weeks or longer to arrive once ordered. Approximate Retail Value (“ARV”): $15 USD. 

The ServiceNow Community reserves the right to access email data provided by the entrant in order to reach out to individuals who have completed the challenge. Entrants who have met the guidelines and have successfully completed the challenge will receive an email from ServiceNow with instructions on how to redeem the prize. Excited to share that I completed the  #BuildWithCreatorStudio challenge!
Here is what I build, Claim Submission Application

I used Creator Studio to build a claim submission form designed to simplify the process of submitting expenses such as travel or external certification fees. The form is straightforward and user-friendly.

Requested By: The person submitting the claim.
Claim Type: Select the type of claim from a dropdown list.
Amount Spent: Enter the amount in the number field.
Date of Expense: Provide the date in the date field.
Detailed Description: Use the multiline text field to provide a detailed description of the claim.
Mandatory Attachments: Upload all relevant documents, such as receipts, to support the claim.


Automated Approval Process: Streamlined and Effective

Once the claim is submitted, it is automatically routed to the appropriate approver. If the claim is approved, the requestor receives an email confirmation, and a task is created for the Claims Management team to process the payment. If the claim is rejected, the requestor is notified via email with an explanation for the rejection.

Creator Studio made it effortless to quickly turn this app's no-code solution interface into a reality.

I am thrilled to say that I have finished the #BuildWithCreatorStudio challenge and submitted my Meeting Room Reservation app! This tool simplifies the process of scheduling conference rooms across many office locations, allowing staff to do so swiftly and efficiently. The app maintains availability by displaying real-time room status and allows you to easily manage recurring bookings.
It also features a two-level approval system: first by the requester's manager, and then by the office administrator, to ensure that resources are spent efficiently. Once authorized, the app will automatically log the reservation and notify the support team to prepare the room.

As part of the challenge, I built a ServiceNow application that lets employees request to adopt office plants to bring a touch of nature to their workspace! 🌱 This app not only promotes a greener office but also contributes to employee well-being by encouraging relaxation, focus, and productivity.
The process is simple: employees fill out a request form, choose their preferred plant, and the request is routed through manager and HR approvals before the admin assigns the perfect plant! 🌿🌞
This initiative fosters a positive workplace environment, encourages collaboration, and creates an eco-friendly space for everyone to enjoy.

As part of #BuildWithCreatorStudio challenge I wanted to build something in span of few minutes with no code, no complex flow/s and minimal efforts. No wonder, was able to with ServiceNow's Creator Studio helping developers to get a centralized user interface helping desing applications with zero code.

Claim reimbursement process is something that was built in hardly 3 minutes starting from form design to approvals and fulfillment flow. A form with minimal fields to help ensure approvals are triggered and fulfilled by relevant team to ease of the claim process. The process for setting up the form invovled setting up questions, relevant choices, date by simply dragging and dropping to the form.

Not only limited to approvals and fulfillment it triggers notifications and also has survey responses captured against it to help improve the quality of service.

I am excited to share that I completed the #BuildWithCreatorStudio challenge!

I created a simple Travel Request app using Creator Studio. The app is designed to streamline the Travel Request process for employees by capturing the necessary information on the form submission and automatically routing the request to the appropriate approval to group. It provides real-time status tracking, notifications, and platform reporting for continuous improvement.

Creator Studio’s user-friendly interface allows users to quickly set up workflows and customise the app to fit exact requirements. Creator Studio made it extremely easy to quickly bring this app idea to life with its no-code solution interface, allowing me to build a fully functioning application in less than one hour!

I created a simple Leave application app using Creator Studio. The app is designed to streamline the leave approval process for end users by capturing the necessary information on the form submission and automatically routing the leave request to the appropriate approval to the user manager. It provides real-time status tracking, notifications.

I tested out Creator Studio and built a simple vacation app with it (because I want to get that SN mug 😀). The purpose of it is: to simplify vacation planning and making requests among employees.

Main features:

• User can submit unified form for approval for manager;
• When manager approves, requestor is informed about via email about if it was approved or not.
• Stores user request in custom application made table.

Because I wanted to test out only Creator Studio I did not added anymore logic, although there is a lot you can do around it to improve it.

Key takeaways from my side about this new tool:

• It makes faster for creating simple generic request forms;
• You can generate very simple flow from get go. (Even include notification configuration)
• The overall control and UI is simple to understand;
• When using this tool, you still will need to add outside logic via scripts/Flows ect., to make application fully functional;
• You can add fields to form and configure them, but all validation, data auto-population still be needed to be done by script/UI policies and other tools.
• When configuring emails, you can’t add dynamic data from get go (or at least I did not find it) so you will need to do it form outside.

Overall it looks promising for simple forms and will be interesting to see how it will be adopted and improved 😀
