Add stakeholder / requestor field to KB article

I received a request from one of the knowledge article creator in my organization to add a stakeholder and/or requestor field to a kb article and build out notifications when an article approaches expiration. The business use being a way to track who originally requested the article and be responsible for the article's content and validity (valid to date). I have began adding separate fields to the kb articles in my development instance - one for a Requestor and one for a Stakeholder but it feels like I am rebuilding the OOB process and wanted to see if anyone else has encountered a similar situation and how you approached it.
