Adding new fields to many-to-many table

Hello, everybody!

 

I want to use a Many-to-Many table so I don't have to use one my available custom tables (according to the documentation, "Many-to-Many tables are not considered custom tables and don't count toward your custom table allotment").

However, I'm afraid that creating new fields on this table could somehow invalidade this rule, and make the table count as a custom table.

I couldn't find anything in the documentation either confirming or denying this. Can someone help me find an answer?
