Adding Topic to Catalog Item not Captured in Update Set (Employee Center)

We previously were using categories for the old portal.  When one adds a category to a catalog item, this change is captured in an update set.

On a catalog item, there is a related list called ‘assigned topics’.  This is the relationship between the catalog item and the topic, similar to connecting a catalog to a category.  The change of adding a topic to a catalog item is not captured via update set though.

Some context, we have a group of people that make catalog items/flows outside the admins.  They capture their changes in Dev via update set, and promote them to Production through us admins.  Now that they can’t capture adding a topic to a catalog (explained above), we have an issue on our hands.

Curious to see if anyone in the community has encountered this, or if there are any solutions

Nonsense alright. SN built functionality around the data, so to have this not included in update sets shows just how asinine and poor this argument of "it's data", and it's approach is for this functionality.

It's as thou they only considered and built it so that content changes were changed only in PROD, as shown by the "preview changes" button.  While completely ignoring the development pipeline. The development decisions around this Next employment portal is so bad, I really do not understand how anyone kept their job.

And good luck deleting unneeded content, and migrating that to PROD. Or getting any help from ServiceNow because they intentionally did that, making it that bad.

For pushing to Update Set, for example:

Either use the out-of-the-box "Create application file" or many have the custom "Force to update set".

Again you could also export xml/import. This has also been mentioned multiple times on the ServiceNow Employee Center Academy. Personally I feel this being a strange approach and really weird suggestion by ServiceNow employees, since companies with a high maturity, not working with admin on PRD, etc, won't allow you to just import such.

Kind regards,
