Allow Teams to Function in TEST & UAT Without Admin Access (with Read-Only Access to Backend Config)

Hi Community,

 

We’re looking to implement a setup in our ServiceNow TEST and UAT environments that allows functional teams to perform all required testing without needing admin access and without facing access-related hassles.

The goal is to ensure that:

  • Teams can perform end-to-end testing activities such as submitting tickets, approving records, and validating workflows.

  • They should be able to submit tickets, approvals, and work on all required forms.

  • All backend configuration areas and plugin updates should remain in read-only mode (no modification or activation rights).

Essentially, we want to provide enough access for testing functional and process scenarios while keeping system-level configurations secure.

 

Has anyone implemented a similar controlled-access model for TEST/UAT?

Would appreciate any best practices, role configurations, or ACL recommendations to achieve this.

Hi @dattanarend,

Theoretically with this model - your Testers would need ITIL access (Assuming the tickets you are referring to are ITSM tickets), and approval admin access so that they can override approvals. 
An alternative would to be to give them impersonate access so they can impersonate the approval user.
