ATF - Reference type output variable

Is it possible to dinamically change the reference table for a reference type output variable?

A try to create a custom test step which has an output variable with type: Reference

My goal is to have a test step which can return a full record to be able to access any of the record data in subsequent steps, regardless of the table. However, if I create a reference type output variable, I have to define the reference table during the definition of the variable. So I have to create a different step for different tables and they will differ only in the reference table of the reference type output variable.

I don't think this is possible yet through ATF.
