As a beginner exploring ServiceNow, what are the most important modules or features I should focus on first to build a strong foundation? Also, are there any recommended learning paths or hands-on projects that can help me quickly understand how ServiceNow is applied in real-world scenarios?

FYI- Story from my--

A few months ago, I was completely new to ServiceNow. I didn’t know where to start or how the platform worked. Everything looked confusing at first, and I felt like learning it would take a very long time.

While searching on YouTube for some guidance, I came across  Sir’s channel. That’s where my ServiceNow learning journey actually started. His way of explaining concepts in a simple and practical manner made things much easier to understand. Step by step, I started learning the basics, practicing in my own instance, and gradually building confidence.

Over the months, I realized how much I had grown. From not knowing anything about ServiceNow, I can now say that I’m no longer a beginner. There is still a lot to learn, but the foundation has become strong.

My small suggestion to anyone who is starting with ServiceNow: try learning from Atul Sir’s channel. Stay consistent, practice regularly, and keep exploring the platform. If you keep learning with dedication, I’m sure you’ll soon become confident and move towards becoming an expert.

Hi @23221a4249

If you're just starting with ServiceNow, I recommend beginning with the "CSA learning path on Now Learning" and requesting a Personal Developer Instance (PDI) to practice.

Focus on understanding fundamentals like tables, forms, lists, Flow Designer and basic scripting. Once the fundamentals are clear, you can move toward "CAD certification" or module specializations like ITSM or CSM depending on your interest.

Hands-on practice in a PDI makes a huge difference in understanding how the platform actually works.

Also, exploring posts and discussions in the ServiceNow Community can help you learn from real-world use cases and experienced professionals.

I’m a ServiceNow trainer and happy to share my thoughts with anyone beginning their ServiceNow journey.

ServiceNow is growing rapidly in both breadth and depth. The best way to start is by earning the CSA (Certified System Administrator) certification, which builds a solid foundation in platform fundamentals, terminology, and core modules. Once you gain hands-on experience through CSA, you can decide your next learning path.

Employers value professionals with multi-module expertise, so after completing CSA, consider exploring areas like ITSM, GRC, HRSD, CSM, or SecOps to broaden your portfolio.

Currently, the training is free, which is a great opportunity — though the real challenge lies in gaining hands-on experience. To overcome this, spend at least 1–2 hours a day engaging with the ServiceNow Community — read discussions, answer questions, and share your insights to strengthen your understanding and confidence.

If your goal is to become a developer, focus on building scripting skills using resources available on developer.servicenow.com. Regular practice will enhance your technical expertise.

Start with the CSA and then choose your direction based on your interests — whether as an Admin, Developer, Business Analyst, Change Manager, or Project Manager. A strong foundation will give you the flexibility to explore any of these paths.

Welcome to this vibrant community space where you can connect, collaborate, and grow. Share your ideas, seek guidance, and contribute to collective learning.

To take the next step, register on Now Learning and begin your ServiceNow learning journey today.
