Calendar component (sn_calendar) can not be updated in my PDI, because of "Unavailable for Instance"

Hello,

I am trying to update the Calendar component (sn_calendar) plugin on my PDI. The newer versions resolve several existing issues, and this plugin is also a required dependency for other applications, such as Service Operations Workspace ITSM Advanced Applications.

However, I am currently unable to perform this update. Is this the expected behavior, or is this a known issue?

Hi @Franziska

Many ServiceNow Store applications and paid commercial plugins are restricted or unavailable on a ServiceNow Developer Site Personal Developer Instance (PDI) because PDIs do not support commercial licensing, third-party vendor apps, or specific restricted product lines.

It is a known statement, and I believe SN has no plan to make the Store App available in PDI.

PDI is not officially supported, which means you cannot raise a case with SN if something is unavailable or not working as expected. It is a free resource instance provided for evaluation purposes and comes with limited features.

You can consider PDI as an environment with restricted functionality that is provided free of charge. To use applications such as Store Apps, you need to go through a company-owned customer instance. These customer instances come with the required licensing/subscription model, where you can pay and use the supported features.

Why Store Plugins Are Missing

  • Paid or Commercial SKU: Features requiring a paid subscription (such as certain Hardware/Software Asset Management extensions or specialized GRC/SecOps modules) are blocked on free developer instances.
  • Third-Party Vendor Apps: Applications built by external third-party vendors on the ServiceNow Store cannot be downloaded or linked to a non-commercial PDI profile.
  • Instance Limitations: Some core ServiceNow Store apps are restricted by design and will display an "unavailable on developer instances" message.
