Category subcategory on catalog items

Hello guys,

I have to add category and subcategory variables on 5 catalog items

all have different ca and subcats

For one item, I have 10 cats and 100 subcats

what would be the best approach to achieve this

remember subcategories are dependent on the categories.

how can I achieve this? I just need to know for 1 and then I can do it for other 4 catalog items

Thank you so much

Hi @Southsayer

A variable set is a good option in this case. However, it’s not the best approach to have 100 subcategory values. As per best practices, a category should have only 5-8 values, and a subcategory should have 10-15. Since the count is high, I would prefer to convert this into a reference field by creating a new table to store them. This way, you can easily use the reference qualifier as well.

@Southsayer

If those are going to be used in multiple catalog items with minor tweaks etc i.e. few items require 8 or 9 category then it's better to use variable set and then you can write onLoad catalog client script on particular items to hide/remove the category options

what did you start with and where are you stuck?
