Change reference display value within single reference field in Service Portal

I have a reference field that display records from our cmn_department table. 

We need to change the displayed value of one of the record choices in the reference field in the Service Portal. I'm speaking of the dropdown in the image.

I want to change the text "CL" to say something else. However I can't update the actual record as it is used in many places. Is there any way to do this?

Hi @Mark Endsley 

The simple answer is "NO", As reference variable show the data directly from database.

You have to change it in actual record to see the changes.
