Greetings!
The company I work for has decided they want to change the name of their ServiceNow instance URL. When they purchased SN they only intended to use it for Incident Management, so we have the text "helpdesk" in our URL. Now we use ServiceNow for much more than Incident Management, so we want the text "helpdesk" removed from the instance URL. Do I need a reverse proxy set up in order to accomplish this?
Any advice/suggestions/feedback is much appreciated - thanks!

If you are talking about the actual Service Now URL xxxxxx.service.now.com ... we had to do this recently as our company name changed.... if this is the case, you will need service now to create a new instance and clone your old one over to it...they can also setup a temporary redirect for a brief time to assist....
Also, while doing this (if you are) make sure to do the email address as well.

Hi Kari,
As Marc mentions the actual Service Now URL is like this :
https://xxxxxx.service.now.com
If the URL you use to access ServiceNow, when within your Enterprise network, is not like that, you probably have an enterprise proxy defined.
If so you can request a reconfiguration of your enterprise proxy.
Also there is a recent Community Post which is helpful:
Best Regards

Hi Kari,
Log in to HI and register an incident for renaming of instance.
SN support will then send you the details
