CMDB Lifecycle Stage and Status Population

Hi,

The customer has made a request to modify the lifecycle status and stage using a Business Rule. Specifically, they want these fields to be set to 'operational' if they are empty. I recommended utilizing lifecycle mapping and activation, which would automatically populate these fields based on the operational status.

The customer is seeking guidance from ServiceNow regarding the potential consequences of removing the operational status field in the future. This could necessitate updates to existing functionalities, such as discovery, that rely on it.

 

Can someone suggest whether it's necessary to populate these fields from the legacy operational status field and what the implications would be for the operational status field in future versions.

What benefits would we gain from implementing the lifecycle stage and status?
