Converting sys_user REFERENCE variable to 'Requested For' variable type - experiences?

Hello - I am looking into enabling the 'Delegated Request Experience'

Currently my company has hundreds of items using a Standard variable set storing the 'requested for' field in a sys_user 'Reference' variable type. To transition to the new field variable type "Requested For", we're looking at updating the current Reference variable type to the 'Requested For' type (rather than inactivating the existing field and creating a new one).

I couldn't find any specific documentation relating to converting an existing Reference variable type to the 'Requested For' variable type to understand any negative affects that could have. I know certain fields don't handle being changed to different field types - and is sometimes better to create a new variable instead.

So far, all initial testing appears like this works fine, and the 'Requested for' field looks to behave just as the sys_user 'Reference' field type did.

Has anyone here had experience converting this variable type in the past? Did it go well, or were there any unexpected results (ex. impacts to flow/workflow pointing to the field, etc)?

If you've attempted this yourself in the past, I'd appreciate hearing you experience. Thanks!
