Creating a custom subcategory

I need to create a custom subcategory in a table I created myself. I know that you can set a dependent field for subcategory items, e.g. in the Incident table. But somehow, 'category' and 'subcategory' already seem to be linked on the incident table. I have a table with 'type' and 'subtype' fields and no matter how I set the dependent fields, nothing happens. This is not surprising because I probably have to tell the system somehow that the 'subtype' field as a whole is going to be dependent on 'type'. How do I do this?

Hi @kim-lindgren , Could you please share what you have did so far. e.g any onChange script

Thank you

Hi,

Do I need an onChange script to create a custom subcategory? I thought it would somehow work out of the box. See my reply to SatyakiBose.

Thanks

Thank you for finding that video for me. The solution is simply to click 'Advanced view' when you are in the dictionary of your subcategory field. On that Advanced view there is a tab 'Dependent field' that allows you to set the field your subcategory is dependent on. It is covered from 3:50 in the video you linked.

Thanks and hope that will be useful to someone else too!
