Hi @Community Alums

These roles are not the same, and they are designed to support different aspects of application management within the APM module of ServiceNow's CMDB.

Group Attestors are primarily concerned with data accuracy and compliance by reviewing and confirming the details of applications and portfolios.

Group Managers, on the other hand, are responsible for the overall management, strategy, and decision-making related to application portfolios, ensuring that they align with the organization's business objectives.

CMDB (Configuration Management Database), the terms "Group Attestor" and "Group Manager" typically refer to distinct roles with different responsibilities. While they both relate to managing and overseeing access and permissions within the CMDB, they serve different purposes.

  1. Group Attestor: The Group Attestor role is usually associated with the attestation process in the CMDB. Attestation is the process of reviewing and confirming that users' access rights are accurate and appropriate. Group Attestors are responsible for reviewing and confirming access rights assigned to groups of users. They ensure that the access permissions granted to various groups are in line with the organization's policies and requirements. If there are discrepancies or errors in access rights, the Group Attestor can take action to correct them. This role is more focused on the governance and compliance aspect of access management.

  2. Group Manager: The Group Manager role, on the other hand, is typically responsible for managing groups within the CMDB. Group Managers are responsible for creating, modifying, and maintaining groups of users. They determine which users should be part of specific groups based on their roles and responsibilities. Group Managers may also have some control over the access permissions granted to the groups they manage. This role is more focused on the operational aspect of managing access groups.

  3. the roles of Group Attestor and Group Manager are not the same. Group Attestors focus on reviewing and confirming access permissions for groups, ensuring compliance with policies. Group Managers focus on creating, maintaining, and managing groups of users within the CMDB. The distinction between these roles helps organizations maintain effective access management and compliance within their CMDB environments.
