Difference between related case vs parent case

Hello developers,

I have a quick question that's probably ServiceNow 101 but I wanted to get more clarification.

What is the difference between the Procurement Task > Related case and Procurement Task > Parent?

They both have the same information but populate different fields.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Best regards,

  • The Parent Case field establishes a direct hierarchical relationship between a Procurement Task and its parent case (typically a Procurement Case).
  • The Related Cases field is used to associate other Procurement Cases that may be relevant but are not in a direct parent-child relationship.
