Hello,
I have been a ServiceNow System Administrator for the past 2 years (Certified for a year). I have experience modifying and customizing our environment for the end users using business rules, UI Policies, Form Layout, etc. I have since left the company I was working at and have looked for other opportunities within ServiceNow and I want to get into the Developer roles. I am studying the "Application Creation in ServiceNow" from Knowledge16, and building up my Developer Instance with examples like a portfolio, I will be taking the Certified Application Developer exam in the coming month but I am looking for real world advice on how to become and present myself as a Developer to future potential employers.
Looking at the career pages most companies are looking for ITIL certifications, and what I would consider Senior Developer experience. For those developers out there what would you think is a nice progression road map from Administrator to Developer?
My thoughts are find a recruiting company that will take me on as a Junior to Mid-Level Developer role, show them what I have and move up like in any job/company but that is not specific enough for a plan. I am looking for something like:
1.) Build the development instance
2.) Learn more AngularJS / JavaScript
3.) Get ITIL certified (Or any certification specific to growth in ServiceNow)
4.) etc.
5.) etc.
6.) etc.
I am wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction?
Thank you,
David

Thank you Steven, I have looked at the link, and applied.
I was hoping more for a general discussion on what individual consultants/developers have done to get to where they are now so others, like myself, when searching can have a good jumping off point as well.
I changed the topic to reflect that I am looking for a discussion.
So taking from the link a Junior Developer would:
- work alongside and learn from experienced Consultants (Mentors) and team members and contribute to developing solutions
- work as a member of project teams performing basic Service Management configuration, testing and documentation as they learn to use the ServiceNow platform.
- As they gain more skills, they would be increasingly involved in more activities
Also, as a side topic. Most ServiceNow jobs are in larger cities... Do people pick up and move for a 2 month, or 6 month to a year contract? Do you negotiate it as remote? Or do you only look for jobs in your area? - for example, where I am there isn't a lot of ServiceNow work. The closest thing would an hour to an hour and a half away commute. But there is work in Texas, Colorado, California, Washington (both state and DC)
These are discussion points I believe people starting out would like to know. If there are other things please add them to this discussion.
Thank you again Steven for the link and joining in.

Hey David,
I just created a post on how does one get their start in SN? I was wondering, although currently you are looking to be a junior dev in SN, how did you get your start as an administrator?
