Due Date Field on Visual Task Boards (New York)

We are moving to New York shortly and whilst performing smoke testing in a lower tier (which we already upgraded) noticed a new field on the Visual Task Boards (Due Date Field) which allows the owner of a VTB to specify a Due Date field e.g. Opened/Closed/Implementation Start Date. However, it then allows an owner to update any of these dates simply by entering a new date on the card. 

Can we disable this functionality? I can't see anything in the release notes/community about this field. I just don't understand the logic behind it if it allows an owner of a VTB (who could in actual fact be anyone with itil) to update read only fields on a table.
