Field of type html is generating weird characters in word document

I've a field with type html

I've some HTML code in its source code. But when I generate a word document out of this content, it's coming with some unwanted characters (highlighted with yellow background)

My guess is that the spaces ( ) are being shown like that. Is there any way to suppress that?

 

What does that character signify?
