Guidance to understand the function and trigger conditions for all notification entries

I have a customer who is trying to limit the email notifications to only people who need to see them. Currently, they are inundating their employees with unnecessary emails or they are irrelevant to certain roles and personas. My customer is looking for product documentation or guidance to help them understand the function and trigger conditions for all notifications entries. I looked through product documentation and I couldn't find a list of descriptions for triggers. For example there are a total of 324 entries but only 60 of them have descriptions. For the incident table, 24 entries are applicable, yet only 1 has description.
