How can i access Catalog Variables in Process automation Designer

I try to access catalog variables in process automation designer. my trigger in pad is requested item table. my expectation is to use  as activity "get catalog variables" but is not available as default. have anybody a tip how can i access catalog variables in pad?

I stopped using PAD when I realized that I wasn't using it right.

  I am on the same boat as not able to get the variables from item to Playbook.
  So what you have done to achieve this ?
