This is the layout I am stuck with, even when creating other pages I can't seem to expand the middle part. However there is another portal that does use everything and my question is how can I do the same thing?? I know it's possible. Also, why couldn't I do it before?

on the page, you need to go to the container where this section is, and set the Width field to "Fluid" instead of fixed. this will cause that container to take the full width of the page instead of putting the auto-margins in. Let me know if you can't find what I am talking about. below is a screen shot of a container set to fixed width. You will want to change yours to fluid.
