Hi Buddy,

You’re right to notice that — for simple searches they can look almost the same.

The reason is that Now Assist and Genius Results often pull from the same underlying content (knowledge articles, catalog items, so when you search something basic like “laptop issue,” they can surface very similar results.

The difference isn’t really what content they return it’s how they’re meant to be used.

Genius Results is essentially smarter search. It improves relevance and ranking in the portal helps the right articles or catalog items show up first, and then stops there. The user still has to read, click and decide what to do next.

Now Assist is more of a conversational helper. It starts with search but then explains, summarizes, and guides the user. It can ask follow-up questions, suggest next steps and potentially deflect a ticket by helping the user resolve the issue without submitting one.

So for straightforward queries they’ll often look identical. The real difference shows up when the question is vague, needs explanation or requires guidance rather than just a list of links.

In short:

  • Genius Results = better search results

  • Now Assist = guided, conversational assistance that uses those results

They’re designed to work together, which is why the overlap can feel confusing at first.
