1. Check if the assignment was done from record producer script.

2. Check if the assignment was done through a business rule

3. Check if the assignment was done through a template

4. Check if the assignment was done through an assignment rule.

You need to look into the single record producer to understand the behavior. Assignment group can be set from record producer, business rule, assignment lookup rules etc.
