Effortlessly Connect ServiceNow Contracts to Microsoft Word: A Quick Guide for Admins

If you’re managing contracts in ServiceNow, you probably know how handy it is to work directly in Word without switching back and forth. Luckily, there’s a dedicated Microsoft Word add-in for ServiceNow Contracts that makes this smooth and efficient.

If you’re an admin, here’s how you can set it up in just a few minutes — whether you’re on a Mac, Windows, or using Word online.

🔑 Who can do this?

This setup requires admin rights in your ServiceNow instance.

📥 First, grab the manifest file

Before anything else, you’ll need to download the special configuration file (called a manifest) from your ServiceNow portal:

  1. In ServiceNow, go to All → ServiceNow Add-Ins for Office → Office Add-In Manifests.

  2. Find ServiceNow Contracts in the list.

  3. Hit Download Manifest — keep this file somewhere easy to find.

💻 Next, install the add-in based on your device

🍏 For Mac users

  • Copy the downloaded file to this folder on your Mac:
    /Users/<your-username>/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.Word/Data/Documents/wef

  • Open Word.

  • Open any document where you want to use the add-in.

  • Go to Insert → My Add-ins and choose ServiceNow Contracts.

  • You’ll now see it under the Home tab when you need it.

🖥For Windows users

  • Publish the manifest so it’s available in your Microsoft 365 environment (you can find clear instructions on Microsoft’s website).

  • Launch Word.

  • Open your document.

  • Click Insert → My Add-ins and pick ServiceNow Contracts.

  • It’ll appear in the Home ribbon for easy access.

🌐 For Word Online

  • Open Word Online in your browser.

  • Click File → Get Add-ins.

  • Go to More Add-ins, then switch to ADMIN MANAGED.

  • Click Upload My Add-in, select your manifest file, and confirm the upload.

  • Once done, you’ll find the add-in under the Home tab, ready to use in your online documents.

That’s it!

Once installed, the ServiceNow Contracts add-in will be right at your fingertips in Word. Now you can handle contract templates, approvals, or placeholders without jumping back to your browser every time.
