How to make changes to scoped application

Hello There,

Greetings!!!

Let's say we have developed a scoped application in ServiceNow. We got to do some fixes and enhancements on it. Then how the changes are made, how the changes are captured and moved to Production.

Should process be like (When we get something to be fixed or enhanced on the scoped application):

1) Change the scope in Dev instance to scoped application

2) Go to the particular script, make the necessary changes

Que: Are the changes automatically captured under scoped application or do we need to do something for them to be captured

3) Once it is fixed, directly go to my company applications and publish the changes as new version?

Please help me figure it out, I am bit confused here.

Note: I have idea that we need to publish the updates from my company applications and set the version and go to production and install the newer version

Thanks,

Tejas

Hi @Community Alums

The process should be as below :

1. Take backup of existing update set of the application or push the application files to a git repository.

2. Change the scope in the development instance to your scoped application scope.

3. Make the necessary changes which will automatically be captured in your application update set.

4. Test the application end to end. Also, validate the application for any warnings or errors using Validate Application button on My Company Applications.

5. Publish a newer version of the application once the changes are done using My Company applications either to application repository or you can even export an update set for the application as well.

6. Also, you can move the changes via Git repository as well.

Thanks & Regards

Hi @Amit Verma ,

1) Can you tell me how to take backup of ongoing development activities only (specific application files which have not been moved to production) on scoped application while cloning or upgrading the instance?

2) How to take backup of entire one scoped application in update set?

3) I am not understanding the 3rd point you mentioned

Does it mean we need to create an update set in scoped application, or it automatically creates an update set each item we make changes, could you please elaborate on this?

Hi @Community Alums

Below are my responses :

1) Can you tell me how to take backup of ongoing development activities only (specific application files which have not been moved to production) on scoped application while cloning or upgrading the instance?

Response : You can open a local update set to keep a track of current changes being done to the application. This way, you can keep a track of the application files being changed in the newer version.

2)How to take backup of entire one scoped application in update set?

Response : Navigate to My Company Application -> Open your Application Record -> Under the Related Links Section, you will find Publish to Update Set

3) It doesn't creates any update set automatically while you make the changes to your application. You can create a separate update set to keep track of changes being done to the application as I explained in first response or the changes would be captured in the default update set of your application which could be accessed by clicking on Open Record under the application update set as shown in snip below.

Please let me know if you have any other doubts. Will be happy to assist.
