How to search the activity log in a record

My users want to search comments made thru the worklog.
I've done some testing and it looks like the global search box will work. At least for most kinds of records which are active.
I'd like to dive deeper and offer up instructions from the search interface available when listing a set of records. Then they could search for closed records, etc. However, worknotes is not one of the variables listed in the drop down in the search interface.

I noted that the worknotes don't reside in a worknotes field, but in the activity log. So I looked for that, but it doesn't appear in the dropdown either.

So does anyone know how to search for all records which match a word ( or phrase ) in notes which were entered in the worknotes fields?

I don't think Journaled fields (such as Additional Comments & Work Notes) are available through the condition builder at the top of the list, but there is a "Keywords" option available in the list which will search all text fields including the journaled fields.
