Ideally, getDisplayValue() in server side script can fetch name instead of sys_id.

Can you please explain your question in detail?
Based on my assumptions of your question I think you might be seeing sys_id in the reference field or list collectors and instead you want to have the Display name of the user. if so then you need to set the display value on the user table. Please follow the instructions mentioned on the below doc link
