How to update/upgrade custom cloned Widgets?

Hi Everyone,

As our organisation begins the process of updating to London I'm looking at our custom widgets (18 of them) which have been cloned from OOB widgets dating all the way back to the dark ages (Jakarta, lol) and I can see there are a few changes here and there that I would like to incorporate, keeping my customisations while I'm at it.

I've been looking for a simple way to use the Code Compare tool (like the "Resolve Conflicts" when viewing skips) to compare two (different) widgets and I can't see a way to do it. How does everyone else manage this? Just copy/paste blocks and use a different tool to compare?

I think it'd be a great enhancement to add a way of selecting two records manually to use the built in merge tool to compare.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Thanks,
Andrew

To my knowledge, if you clone and change a widget it will not update and there is no way to do it other than manually.

One of the cons with making custom widgets out of cloned OOB widgets.

We have a few that we ave done just that to and any changes has to be done manually with cut and paste and hardcore testing.

Its now yours and you own it.

Not the answer you was looking for I guess.

Hey Stewe,

Yeah, not exactly what I was after. I've been in touch with our ServiceNow reps and am going to suggest adding the code-compare as a feature. Maybe they will like the idea too.

Fingers crossed!

Hey everyone,

Just an update to this. I've found that if you compare versions (to get the code merge tool up) to any previous version, then just copy in the new code from the original widget it's close to what I'm after. it saves going in to another tool to get it done!

Hope this helps someone.
